My Strategy For Creating A Brand That Is Working Well and Medium Is Still. A Huge Part Of It

Credit: Matt Pierce

I’ve made my living for years in the mainstream media as a journalist and producer. If you would have asked me ten years ago if I would have been making YouTube videos and publishing stories on Medium as a “blogging vlogger,” I would have laughed. But sitting here today in my studio it is my reality and I couldn’t be more happier.

Let me just say that my following on YouTube and here on Medium are fairly small. I don’t have the biggest channel nor do I have the biggest influence. But I have come learn that is not a bad thing.

Mainline vs. Indie

You see, there are mainline content creators and then there are the rest of us. It is just like the music business. There are big mainline preformers and then there are the indies. Each one has their place.

The mainline acts get the support of the bigger networks and the bigger sponsorship deals. The indies, who make up a lion’s share of the market, survive off of their loyal fanbase and a few key sponsors. Many of them still make a pretty good living. I feel like I fit into the latter. But what is wrong with that?
